IHP deploys assessment team to South Sudan

Following emergency situation in South Sudan the request from the Logistics Cluster, through the World Food Programme (WFP), for an assessment of portable base camp solutions in South Sudan, Jonglei State, the IHP decided to deploy an assessment team from MSB and DEMA. The team has been briefed in Denmark and is expected to arrive in Juba shortly.

Since the beginning of 2013 there has been an increase in violence across as well as current rainy season in Jonglei State in South Sudan, which has resulted in widespread and continuous displacement of people. According to estimations made by OCHA, the humanitarian community will have to respond to and provide life saving humanitarian aid to up to 95,000 people affected by the violence. Mounting a response in Jongle State is operationally challenging for the humanitarian community and therefore WFP has requested assistance from IHP in supporting the relief efforts.
