Base camp to Pakistan

Upon request from the United Nations IHP has sent a base camp to Pakistan to house 70 international aid workers in the southern part of the country.

The base camp will provide accommodation, kitchen and office facilities to the aid workers, who are participating in the relief work in the flooded Pakistan.

In addition, the camp will also serve as one of the regional headquarters in Pakistan (an OSOCC – On Site Operations Coordination Centre), from where the UN and a number of other humanitarian organizations will coordinate their relief efforts.

The base camp mission will involve a number of IHP countries. Friday 10 September a flight funded by Great Britain left Sweden with the base camp. Personnel are expected to follow early next week when Ramadan in Pakistan is over and the equipment is expected to be safely through customs in the country.

The personnel manning the camp come from Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Finland and Denmark.

According to the present plan, the base camp will be operational in Pakistan for approximately six month.
