Norway assigned new IHP chair
Published: 29 January 2015
In January 2015, the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection (DSB) took over the rotating IHP chairmanship from MSB Sweden, who has held this position since July 1st 2013.
DSB has chosen Mr. Trygve Bruun (picture) to take on the chair position. Mr. Bruun has for several years been Deputy Director General in DSB, leading the directorate’s Civil Defense Department. He has also for several years been IHP focal point representing Norway. Mr Bruun has earlier had a long and extensive military career in the Norwegian navy.
“I very much look forward to be IHP’s chairman, Mr Bruun says, - continuing the excellent work that MSB has put down in leading the very special network that IHP is.”
IHP has delivered extensive support to various emergencies in the last years, in response to the devastating typhoon in the Philippines in 2013, to the complex crisis in Iraq, the challenging Ebola situation in West Africa, as well as the massive floods in Malawi.
“The IHP has provided support to multiple simultaneous emergency situations in 2013 and 2014 which highlights the strength of the network, that the sum is greater than its individual parts. Mr Bruun continues by stressing, that we have to continue to ensure that the IHP network is ready to take urgent action when needed as well as enhance quality and interoperability of our support capacity.”
The new IHP chairman will during his first months in the position make several visits to IHP member organization and IHP’s partners and cooperating organizations. He will host his first IHP focal point meeting in Oslo, Norway, in late March 2016.
