Partnership

Since its inception in 1994, IHP has established a variety of partnerships with other organisations. Partnerships are a key component for the delivery of emergency support services.

IHP Partners

The United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) – WHO was created in 1948 with the objective to the attainment of the highest possible level of health among all peoples. WHO acts as a directing and coordinating authority on international health work.

The United Nations International Organisation for Migration (IOM) – IOM was created in 1951 and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society.

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) – OCHA (initially the Department of Humanitarian Affairs – DHA) was established by the United Nations General Assembly through the GA Resolution 46/182 adopted in 1991. It is the part of the United Nations Secretariat and is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort. IHP and OCHA has collaborated since the inception of IHP in the 1994 and the IHP Secretariat is provided by OCHA Geneva.

United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) - WFP was established in 1961 and strives to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, with the ultimate goal in mind of eliminating the need for food aid itself. Additionally, WFP is the United Nations’ primary logistics organisation and in this role not only supports other UN agencies but also other non-UN humanitarian organisations.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) - UNHCR was established in 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide and is the “guardian” of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) – UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946. The agency strives to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.

European Union (EU) – IHP’s partner in the EU is the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) which was created in 1992 as an expression of European solidarity with people in need all around the world. In 2004 it became the Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid before integrating Civil Protection into ECHO in 2010 for a better coordination and emergency response inside and outside Europe.

MapAction – MapAction is an NGO that traces its history back to 1994 but was officially established with the hiring of its first staff in 2002. MapAction provides a unique service deploying field teams at the outset of a humanitarian response to provide situation overview and detailed information by providing maps, data analysis and information management for humanitarian responders.
