Support services
Over the past decade, the IHP has grown to become a significant provider of support services for the international humanitarian community and has been acknowledged for its prompt and appropriate response. The speed, efficiency and reliability with which IHP can mobilize large complex support packages are greatly appreciated by all its clients.
The operational services provided by IHP partners normally take the form of either “Support Modules” or “Service Packages”. These assets have been used in most of the complex emergencies since Bosnia and many sudden onset disasters. There is no sign of the demand diminishing.
- Support Modules are designed to deploy rapidly to the field to support humanitarian operations. Depending on the environment, a support module may be required to provide any or all of the necessary functions, including communications, office facilities, accommodation, catering and logistics. It might therefore range in size from two or three support staff hand-carrying communications equipment, to a complete facility providing accommodation and office facilities under canvas with catering and transport to support a large field mission for an extended period.
- Service Packages provide technical or logistical services, usually in support of the UN, where the capacity does not exist locally or is unequal to the task. IHP partners have various capabilities, ranging from truck convoys to environmental hazard detection and decontamination facilities.
